For couples taking up pre-marital counseling, they have a special foresight that the training they'll undergo for successful marriage will be worth it. But the level of care and instruction you can get from premarital counseling can vary greatly.

What kind of Premarital counseling experience are you looking for?
Some couples report briefly meeting with a marriage officiant as the extent of their premarital counseling. Others attend 8 hours of lecture and barely interact as a couple during the process. But at Luminous Christian Counseling, you'll receive a very detailed and differentiated premarital counseling program catered to your needs and concerns utilizing the "Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts" (SYMBIS) assessment.
The Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts (SYMBIS) Assessment by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott is designed to give dating and engaged couples the skills they need to evaluate the prospect of marrying, explore what love looks like for themselves and their partner, and how to create a roadmap for life long love.

We'll cover topics such as expectations, your unique personalities, conflict, budgeting, spirituality, and so much more. For couples with extra topics to cover such as remarriage after being widowed or divorced, or if one you has a child from another relationship, we'll have two extra sessions dedicated to those important topics as well.
​
The standard SYMBIS premarital counseling course is 8 sessions. If either of you has been married before or has a child from another relationship, there are 2 extra mandatory sessions that cover topics such as blended family parenting, issues related to divorce or a former spouse's death.
